Made For This

I cannot tell you how many times in the last year I’ve questioned if I’m really cut out for this thing.  Mothering three kids during a pandemic?!  Trying to build a small business with only the training I seek for myself to figure out what I’m doing?!  Finances, medical diagnoses, being a supportive wife, maintaining a home, eating healthy, drinking enough water, being an encouraging friend…it feels like too much sometimes.

One of my goals for this year is to write more.  I’ve wanted to start blogging for awhile now, not necessarily seeking to monetize or pressure myself into anything, but more just as a way to journal, grow as a writer, and maybe encourage someone else along the way.

I come from a teaching background.  I taught third grade for six years and you know what my least favorite subject to teach was?  WRITING.  In fact, when I was given the option to teach only math and science I didn’t give it even a second thought.  Math has solid answers, and writing, to me, was always hard to teach because it has this undefinable quality to it.  There are writers, and then there are WRITERS.  The ones who pour their souls into the words they weave together like a cozy blanket that engulfs you and you never want to leave.

So here I am, not as a WRITER, but just a writer willing to learn.  I put off starting this task for months just due to the simple fear that “I’m not good at it.”  And who wants to learn to be good at something while simultaneously putting it out into the world for other’s to see?  The vulnerability is too much.

But if there’s one thing I’m learning in life, it’s that being “good” at something is not without the struggle first.  The spark that keeps flashing in our minds and the dreams in our hearts are not there for nothing.  It means we are made for this, even when it’s hard, even when we struggle, and even when we are scared to even pick up the pen and start because we think “I’m not good at it.”

So, here is my start.  If I’m brave enough and choose to make the time in the midst of this crazy life, the writing here will continue and get better along the way.  I hope you’ll join me as I continue to share bits of encouragement, motherhood, DIY, and all the things that make Spreading Hope Designs what it is.  And in the meantime, don’t forget that the spark in your thoughts and the dream in your heart means that you were made for this, even when it’s scary.  You got this.
